Going on a Toad Hunt!

Last night, Allie and I went on a “Toad Hunt.”

Fully equipped with flashlights and a “habitat” jar, we ventured outside in the dark and followed the “song” coming from our pond. On the beach, we discovered an entire world of night life — with toads on the sand and in the water. (Thankfully I didn’t have to explain why some were playing “Piggyback!”) We watched as one toad sang a “love song” — his throat bubbling out! Allie thought that was funny! Then I picked one up and offered to let her hold it. She was content to go “face to face” with it and said,

“Hello, little one. What’s your name? Mine’s Allie!”

(I’d explained that some toads are princes in disguise and that, if a princess kisses him, she might break the spell… but evidentally, she wasn’t buying that story last night, as she declined a kiss!)

Once back inside and in bed, Allie asked me, “When will we see the ‘pad-toles’?” (Too cute!) ♥
